NADEESHA REPLIES TO HER CONTROVERSIAL STATEMENT ON PROSTITUTES

Nadeesha answers to her controversial statement

The famous Tele drama actress Nadeesha Hemamali, participating in a recent weekend television program in Swarnawahini in December said that the men will get sick and go mad if there aren’t any prostitutes and thus prostitution should be considered with respect and treated as a dire need for men.
After the video of this controversial statement was sent across the internet, Nadeesha never made any comment in public about it. Many people considered that since Nadeesha told that she does not watch what goes on the internet and that she doesn’t care about what is published on the net, she would have kept in silence. But the interview she has given to “Meewitha” in Divaina shows that she has not received good comments for her statement.
She is blaming the media for this.

The answers she had  given to questions posed in this regard are as below:
You have made a controversial statement to the media about the prostitutes, why was that?

When people don’t listen to the original discussion and when the media edit a 10 minute discussion into 1 minute and publish the interpretation changes and the edition too can change to the exactly she had interpreted. Something like that had happened there. I don’t like to talk about it anymore.

But, that wasn’t a good statement. Wasn’t it?

When people don’t have work to do they like to hear what the famous people say. They will not like to hear stories from about a Siripala in a village. They like to hear about someone much more famous. They are waiting to create news all the time. Actually this is something really wrong done by the media. Especially the media should take the responsibility of such things.

Are you blaming the media, saying that they publish wrong news?

Yes, media creates a lot of wrong news. Media wants to earn money. They create a lot of incorrect news without searching the correct details. That is something I know personally. This is relevant to any field.
Have you faced any injustice from the media?
Not only myself, I think that many have faced injustices through the media.

What kind of injustices are you talking about?

Don’t you think that publishing news that harms the personal life without searching the true facts is a wrong thing to do in a democratic country?

Are you telling that the media does these things?

Media pokes their fingers into the personal lives. Particularly of famous artists
There is a saying that “there’s no smoke without fire.”
Media doesn’t like to publish news about an unimportant person who lives in the village. That is not important to the people. News about the artists spreads among the people very fast. When media publishes them then those media gets publicity. Some media tends to publish wrong news.

Are you saying that the media is depending on the actors and actresses?

Actors and actresses have done a great service to the media. Actors and actresses have become people who create news. When we take a newspaper there is column devoted to artists. If the people don’t like them the media won’t publish them. Since they, like us they create news about us.

Are you telling that you don’t give right information to the media?

Sometimes media don’t publish what we say. They distort what we say and publish them in a completely different manner. I too have faced such things.
